What is shadow work?

Shadow work isn’t for everyone. Shadow work is self inquiry into the deepest parts of your being.

The purpose of practicing shadow work is to bring awareness to hidden parts of yourself. You use Shadow work tools and practices to illuminate the aspects of your being that are currently beyond the realm of your conscious awareness and understanding of yourself. These unknowns include past trauma, stored grief, undiscovered gifts and concealed knowledge about your soul and purpose.  Examples of shadow work tools include; journaling and psychotherapy.

A few signs that shadow work may be useful to you:

  1. You commit to a healing journey. The experience feels good at first, but then it gets very tough. What happens when this path leads you to starting all over again, losing friendships or your job?

  2. You have been meditating for years and it has helped you make progress with your mental health, but several years in now you’re beginning to feel more anxious and depressed than before?

Some of us endeavor to try a new spiritual practice and its role consistently feels nourishing and supportive to us. And then there are some of us where these practices call us deeper and deeper into ourselves. That is the call that shadow work helps us to answer.
